I have recently begun to incorporate imagery taken from mass-media, and photojournalism, while maintaining the formal approach to technique and color sensibility of my earlier work. The images that I am interested in are powerful ones, which shape the way we see the world. These are very often used by the media to lend power to a specific angle or agenda, and by doing so, the truth of the issue is made less clear. Furthermore, there is an ever-increasing flow of mass-media into our lives, which I believe colours our perception of the world in ways we may not even realize. It is my intention, by removing these images from that context, to investigate more deeply the power of the image and why particular emotions, such as fear and insecurity, are evoked in the viewer.
